About Us

Our resident teachers John & Wendy:

John and Wendy started dancing modern jive about 10 years ago at the Phoenix Arts Centre. As John became more experienced he started helping with consolidation classes during the intermediate class, at various local modern jive clubs.

Over the years he has progressed and for several years has been guest teaching regularly with his wife Wendy at many modern jive clubs around the South East, and continues to do so.

For a few years John & Wendy competed in modern jive Championships around the country and are also former Dance Champions. They eventually decided that this was far more nerve racking than teaching, so decided to quit the competition scene and concentrate on teaching.

They have developed their style over the years from experience in Latin and Ballroom, Argentine Tango and more recently have been learning West Coast Swing, culminating in a fusion of smooth modern jive.
John is a fully qualified professional LeRoc Federation Teacher endorsed by the United Kingdom Alliance of Dance Teachers, the only nationally recognised qualification, so you can be assured of obtaining a very high standard of teaching.

John & Wendy felt very privileged to be asked to become the resident teachers at the Phoenix Art Centre in June this year (2010). They decided that it was an offer they couldn't refuse as they had started their dancing career at this very venue 10 years before, and felt it would be good to give something back and help others learn to dance and enjoy the experience as much as they had done.

Venue:

The Phoenix Venue is a high tech, multi-purpose venue with top of the range lighting, sound and stage systems, professional air conditioning, large wooden, two tier dance floor, fully licensed bar and extensive floodlit car parking with CCTV for security.  There is a professional and friendly technical team to run the evening smoothly.
